FOREST BIRD COMMUNITIES

Increase of nesting sites: installation and monitoring of nest boxes for insectivorous birds; reproductive phenology and breeding parameters; the use of cork as a new resource for nest boxes.

Insectivorous birds–forest pests’ relationships: symptoms identification of insect pests in cork oak stands and pine forests; the use of bird communities as indicators of pinewoods and „montados‟ health.

Structure of communities: trends of forest bird populations: the influence of land use management, vegetation composition and structure in bird communities; modelling bird distribution and community structural parameters.

Fragmentation effects: bird communities in patchwork landscapes; the effect of patch size, degree of isolation and lack of connectivity in bird communities; diagnosis and establishment of measures for forest management in order to increase bird diversity.
